Hi Ron
Great to be in touch and thanks so much for your help with my enquiry.
I wanted to touch base with you about Round the Bays 2023, as Melanoma New Zealand has recently been announced as the event’s official charity.
By way of background, New Zealand has the worst rate of melanoma in the world with more than 6000 diagnoses and around 300 deaths from melanoma in New Zealand per year. In fact more people die of skin cancer than on our roads. Round the Bays provides a great opportunity for Melanoma New Zealand to raise both awareness and funds to support our much needed education and awareness initiatives to ensure more New Zealanders understand the dangers and signs of melanoma, and to also support patients and their families experiencing melanoma.
As part of our partnership with Round the Bays, Melanoma NZ must supply 70 volunteers for the event which is being held along the Auckland waterfront on Sunday 5 March 2023.
I was wondering if you could please help us approach various Rotary Clubs that might have an interest in helping to provide these volunteers?
Volunteer information:
- Up to 70 volunteers required in total (for water stations along the course)
- A minimum of five team leaders (for water stations)
- Volunteers to be available between 5:30am - 1pm on event day, Sunday 5 March.
- There will also be a pre-event briefing (possibly just for the team leaders) the week before the event. Date, time and location tbc.
Melanoma NZ will supply T-shirts and sunscreen for use during the event. We would just ask volunteers to each bring their own wide brimmed or bucket hat and sunglasses.
Also, if any volunteers had family members interested in taking part in Round the Bays (it’s an 8.4km leisurely stroll or you can actually do it virtually instead by just committing to doing an 8.4km walk in your own location and in your own time), then we have been gifted some free and discounted entries that we would be happy to pass on, on a first-come, first-served basis. As a thank you, I’d also be happy to work in with Rotary to find times next year for our free Spot Check Van to come and visit and provide free spot checks to Rotary members. We would be delighted if Rotary were interested in being involved and would welcome the support. I have cc’d in Bridget Bond in our team also, who is managing the Round the Bays event for Melanoma NZ and would be able to liaise with any volunteers to make arrangements.
