With great pleasure Noeline Doherty, Head of Accounting, Glendowie College introduced us to Year 12 student Frank Leng, this year's recipient of the Peter MacKenzie Scholarship Award. Frank has consistently achieved "Excellence" Endorsed in ALL subjects in NCEA across Levels 1,2 and 3. This year, not only did Frank come first in Economics and receive awards in ALL of his other subjects, he was also named Proxime Accessit (runner up to Dux) of Glendowie College.
Noeline advised us Frank was a hard-working, high-achiever academically, additionally he is an extremely talented musician and accomplished pianist. As a well organised student he even had time to squeeze golf into his timetable from Years 7 to 12! Frank is also an Interact member and volunteered as a tutor for the College's afterschool tutoring programme. Frank gave a massive thank you for receiving this award and acknowledged Peter McKenzie as a great man. Frank advised, with the Scholarship funds he plans on purchasing a laptop and texts in preparation of undertaking a conjoint Commerce and Science degree at Auckland University, majoring in accountancy.Our congratulations Frank on your work ethic, well rounded participation and superb results. Noeline also provided a brief update from two former students and recipients of this Scholarship. Jessie Allison received the Award in 2007. She attended Auckland University for one year and due to family matters, moved to Whangarei to work and undertake extra mural study through Massey University. She kept and her studies and is now a qualified Chartered Account!
Noeline also reminded us of Scott McKenzie, another Scholarship recipient. He is a sailor with significant talent having won the USA Open in the 29ers category and then came fifth in the world. Scott will represent New Zealand in China this December.
