In support of Rotary International’s drive to eradicate polio globally our cluster, St John’s, Auckland East, Downtown Auckland and Harbourside, along with the cluster of Auckland, Newmarket, Parnell and Remuera came together to join many other clusters around the world to raise money for Polio through organising a movie night to watch the new release of Murder on the Orient Express at the Rialto.Our Movie Night was exceptionally well supported...
We sold 126 seats for a 107 seat venue, creating some nervous moments for the organisers. This was whittled down by attrition to 120 seats and it was much appreciated that 13 willing volunteers agreed to be part of the overflow who attended the slightly later session on the same night. A further 5 people donated their seats back as well which helped swell the fundraising and ease the congestion on seats. Everyone seemed to enjoy the well crafted remake with a star studded cast to make it a good night out. It was also a good opportunity to meet and socialise with Rotarians from other clubs and clusters.
Michelle Mann crafted a beautiful hamper for the raffle which raised a further $156. The draw on the night saw the 1st prize go to Namrata who also collected 1 of the movie passes as well, so our club scored pretty well. Thanks to Michelle for her art work, and club members who donated to the hamper and bought the raffles.Our Cluster sold 60 seats – 53 from St Johns!! and the other cluster sold 63. I believe our Cluster has made a profit of $952 when the $156 proceeds from the raffle are included. I am hoping the Club will boost this to a neat $1000 from the Sunshine Fund and if the other cluster matches this we will donate $2000 to Polio which, when matched by the Gates Foundation will become $6000 – not a bad effort.
