Our meeting on October 8th attracted 26 members, plus our two guest speakers.
President Hugh covered off a few Club Notices and duties, prior to the introduction of our guests;
- The Board has approved a donation of $1,000 to support Newmarket Rotary's purchase of a "Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide Machine" for, Asthma NZ. Newmarket Rotary have committed to purchasing three machines, each at a cost of $7,500 and they are very appreciative of our support and our relationship.
- Very few members are available to support the "End Polio Now - Tag on Tag off" fundraising event on October 23rd, but the Club will of course still support the efforts with a suitable donation.
- The club trip to Rotoroa Island for Nov 27 / 29 is confirmed with new ferry times. Any questions to Peter B.
- New Member induction!
It's always a pleasure to participate in a new member induction and our latest induction and the first for President Hugh, was no exception.
Prahba Bhana has been an active member in waiting for several months and we are delighted to welcome her to our club and we are all looking forward to her continued enthusiastic participation in club events and projects. Congratulations Prahba and again welcome to our club. 
Our guest speakers at this meeting were Barry Shaw, (Division Director) and Mavis Dunn, (Area Director) from Orakei Toastmasters.Toastmasters and Rotary International recently announced a new partnership which is designed to help members grow professionally and make a difference in their community. We invited Mavis and Barry to speak to us about their organisation and club activities. Orakei Toastmasters offers a culturally-diverse, friendly and supportive environment to learn real communication and leadership skills. Their club currently has over 35 members from 15 different countries.
Toastmasters International was formed in 1924 and is a non-profit educational organisation. Their first female member was inducted in 1970 and today there are 364,00 members worldwide in 16,200 clubs in 145 countries. In New Zealand there are 163 clubs with a total of 6,062 members.
During the talk, Barry asked for volunteers to share their "#MYWHY". My Why, meaning what were your reasons for joining St. Johns Rotary? Christie and Kevin volunteered to share their My Why, and as would be expected, both spoke very well as would be expected from any good Toastmaster!
On closing, Mavis and Barry extended a welcome to all St. Johns members to visit their club at any time, in order to gain a better understanding of their objectives and activities.
