As mentioned in last weeks Bulletin, a club visit to Rotoroa Island in the Hauraki Gulf was being considered. This is now a reality. You should have received the following e-mail directly from Peter Buchanan, but just in case you missed it, here is a copy....Dear RCSJ Member, Ever been to Rotoroa Island, east of Waiheke Is. and an hour by ferry from Downtown? Well St Johns Rotary Members have got the chance to go on a "Volunteer Working Weekend" group - helping with weeding, etc while enjoying the beauty and native biodiversity of this special island, now being restored. ![]() We need to book well ahead as there's a big demand by volunteer groups, to visit and to help. Numbers are limited to beds available in the 3 holiday homes. Costs: As volunteers, we receive a discounted rate on the Fullers ferry (usually $55 return, reduced to $33). The biggest cost will be the Qualmark 4-star accommodation (about $100 pp pn) - see details on https://www.rotoroa.org.nz/accommodation. Unit prices listed on the website are based on 4, 4, and 8 adults respectively in Oranga, Mahoe, and Serenity holiday homes. (NB. The Superintendent's House is already fully booked by others). Take own food and drink; there's no shop on the island. Dates:
For more details about Rotoroa Island, see: https://www.rotoroa.org.nz/experience For more details about ferry transport & island attractions, see: https://www.fullers.co.nz/destinations/rotoroa-island/ Note that over winter the ferry does not go to Rotoroa, and the spring timetable is not yet listed. Other things to bring:
Bookings: Please contact me to reserve your place - by Friday 14 August, so that I can advise the Rotoroa Is. Trust Manager. Kind regards, Peter Buchanan (for Environment & Science Committee) email: buchananpandr@gmail.com ph. 0274 341 832 ![]() |
