Rotoroa Island

Andrew Poole is Chair of the Rotoroa Island Trust.

Rotoira Island was purchased in 1908 by the Slavation Army with the intention expanding the drug and alcohol treatment facilities at nearby Pakatoa Island. The treatment facility was closed in 2005, and in 2008 the Plowman' leased the property, established the Trust then in 20010 gifted the island to the city.  

This morning, Andrew is going to talk with us about Rotoroa Island: its history as a Salvation Army drug and alcohol treatment centre, its restoration to a public conservation park with native trees and bush, and endangered wildlife, as well as its future direction.
